Mika Komuro was born and raised in Japan.
She made her solo debut in Tokyo in 2007 as well as her concerto debut with George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest, Romania in 2010. She made her first London appearance as a soloist at Steinway Hall in 2013. She has been performing internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player.
Mika was a guest pianist and accompanist of the Odense Symphony Orchestra in Denmark during the 2014-2015 season. She has a strong passion for chamber music and she has been very active as a chamber musician. Her collaborative partners include the string principals of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, trombonist Peter Ellefson and bass trombonist John Rojak, with whom she premiered the piano reduction of the Kenneth FuchsBass trombone concerto in 2019. She has performed with mezzo soprano Catherine Keen and Grammy Award winner Michel Legrand with whom Mika was double soloists on a tour of France and Denmark in 2015. Additionally she has been playing with concertmasters and principal players from major orchestras such as the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Odense Symphony Orchestra, the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra and New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
She is the founder, artistic director and pianist of the project “Without A Word” which was launched in 2022 in Cincinnati. Later the year, the project group formed as Vox Cor Trio which is a unique setting trio composed of piano, trumpet and trombone.
Mika is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK and also a prizer winner of national and international competitions such as the All Nippon Junior Music Competition, The 2nd Romantic Music Competition, The 3rd Burckhardt International Competition and others.
She received her Master’s from Kingston University, UK and also diploma in piano performance from Mozarteum University Summer Academy in Salzburg, Austria.
She is married to American trombonist, David Roode. They have been collaborating for many years and enjoy being on recital tours together.
After moving around different countries, she currently lives in Cincinnati.
